Send a Jira issue in a message

David Rabkin Updated by David Rabkin

Send Jira issues by clicking the Jira Integration+ icon or by tagging the bot (@Jira Integration+).

Share Jira issues either directly to a channel, or to a chat. This includes the chat of a meeting.

What to know:

  • The bot does not need to be invited to the channel or chat to send Jira issues to the channel or chat.
    • The bot only needs to be installed in your Teams to send issues using the icon (messaging extension).
    • When the bot is not installed in the channel, what you can do is limited. You can't perform actions directly on the issues. You can't click to comment or click to view more information about the issue.
Install the bot to the channel to do more with the Jira issues you send to a channel.

Sharing issues with the icon

  1. Click on a chat or channel in Microsoft Teams.
  2. Choose the app Jira Integration+ by clicking the icon:
If you don't see the app icon, click on "..." icon for "Messaging extensions" to find it.
Pin the app to make it easy to find in the future. Hold the control key and click on the icon. Then select Pin.
  3. Search for the Jira issue that you want to use.
  4. Select the Jira issue.
  5. Either type an additional message, or just press the Send icon.

Sharing issues by tagging the bot

The bot needs to be installed to the channel to tag the bot and to send issues to a channel or chat using this method.

Sharing issues by tagging the bot using search

  1. Click on a chat or channel in Microsoft Teams.
  2. Tag the bot by typing @Jira Integration+.
  3. Use a search command by typing either search or JQL search to find the issue(s) you want to share.
    1. Search accepts free form text. For example: @Jira Integration+ server.
    2. JQL search accepts JQL formatted text. For example: @Jira Integration+ jql search Project = Test and issueType = Bug.
  4. Submit the command.
  5. See the results from your search.
    1. If you don't see the issue you want, submit another search by repeating the previous steps.
  6. Select the Jira issue(s) you want to share by clicking on them one at a time.

Now you can do more with this issue. View more details, comment on it, log work, or more.

Sharing issues by tagging the bot with a specific Jira issue

  1. Click on a chat or channel in Microsoft Teams.
  2. Tag the bot by typing @Jira Integration+.
  3. Complete the command by typing the Jira issue.
    1. Use the format project abbreviation - Jira issue number for the Jira issue. For example WEB-1230.
Check the Jira project page or board if you aren't sure what the Jira project abbreviation is.
Use search above if you aren't sure what the specific Jira issue number is.
    1. The full message will look like @Jira Integration+ WEB-1230.
  4. Submit the command.
  5. The bot will respond with the issue, or a message that it can't be found or you don't have permission to access it.

That's it! You shared a specific Jira issue in Teams.

Now you can do more with this issue. View more details, comment on it, log work, or more.

I'm still having issues
